What Nobody Tells You About Feeling Good This Summer
Last month, we talked about the pressure of the «summer body» — and how the fitness industry has convinced us that we need to earn the right to enjoy summer. Today, I want to go deeper.
Because here’s what’s actually happening right now: it’s almost May. Ads are everywhere. Your feed is full of 30-day challenges, detox teas, and before-and-afters. And somewhere in the back of your mind, a little voice is whispering: I’m running out of time.
I want to talk to that voice today. Not to silence it — but to offer it something better.
The Real Reason Those Plans Never Work
Every May, millions of people sign up for extreme programs that promise transformation in 6, 8, or 12 weeks. And every June, most of them feel worse than when they started — not just physically, but mentally.
Here’s why: when movement is tied to punishment, and food becomes a reward system, your body learns to fear both. You stop trusting yourself. And that’s the opposite of feeling good.
You don’t need to shrink yourself to deserve to show up this summer. You were always allowed to take up space.
What «Feeling Good» Actually Looks Like
Forget the goal of looking a certain way for two months. What if the real goal was to arrive at summer feeling strong, energized, and at ease in your body — and then actually stay that way?
That kind of feeling comes from a completely different set of habits:
- Moving because it makes you feel alive, not because you ate something «bad» yesterday.
- Eating in a way that satisfies you — without a list of foods you’re «not allowed» to touch.
- Building a routine that fits your real life, not the life of someone with 3 hours a day to spare.
- Resting without guilt. Rest is not failure. Rest is training.
- Listening to your body’s signals instead of overriding them with a plan you downloaded from Instagram.
This is the work nobody sells you on Instagram — because it’s not flashy, and it doesn’t come in a 30-day package. But it’s the only thing that actually lasts. And it starts with one simple shift: moving from punishment to permission.
Permission to Start Differently This Year
What if May was not the month you white-knuckle your way through a diet? What if it was the month you started building a relationship with your body that you actually want to have in July, in December, and five years from now?
That means asking better questions. Not «How many calories did I burn?» but «How did that workout make me feel?» Not «Did I stick to my meal plan?» but «Am I actually nourishing myself?»
Intuitive movement and intuitive eating are not about doing nothing. They’re about doing the right things for the right reasons — and that requires a deeper kind of self-awareness than any plan can give you.
This Summer, Choose a Different Story
You are not a before photo. You are not a project to be fixed before June. You are a person who deserves to feel incredible in her body right now — not after she loses 10 pounds, not after she completes a challenge.
The most radical thing you can do this spring is decide that feeling good is already available to you. That it doesn’t require suffering to unlock it.
You deserve a summer where you show up fully — not because your body finally looks a certain way, but because you finally stopped waiting for permission to enjoy it.
Ready to do this differently?
If this resonates with you, let’s talk. I work with people who are done with the cycle of restriction and guilt — and ready to build something sustainable
